Captain and centre-half Richard Dunne begins a four match ban for striking Wigan’s Amr Zaki, while Robinho is set to start despite going AWOL last week. Midfielders Dietmar Hamann, Michael Johnson and Martin Petrov are all injured, as are strikers Valeri Bojinov and Benjani. New boys Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong could be handed starts.
Newcastle are without the suspended Nicky Butt and a host of injured players that includes Danny Guthrie, Claudio Cacapa, Mark Viduka, Shola Ameobi, Habib Beye, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith. New signing Peter Lovenkrands could feature on the bench after joining on a free following his release by Schalke.
