Andrey Arshavin must settle in quickly and make an impact for Arsenal if they want to qualify for the Champions League.
The club have come out this week and said they can survive if they do not reach the Champions League, and in pure financial terms they might be right.
But the consequences go much deeper than that. It is not just the revenues they will lose. There will be even more pressure on them from clubs like Real Madrid to sell Cesc Fabregas and their other top players - and these players might have their heads turned if they are not in Europe's leading competition.
Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor, even Samir Nasri - these players could all be unsettled. And they will have less chance of attracting new players as well - it would be a big blow to the club's prestige.
Arshavin is a fine player and will certainly provide much-needed flair while Fabregas is out injured. Arsenal lack some quality in midfield - I don't think Denilson really offers them anything, while Nasri is struggling to shoulder the creative burden almost alone.
My concern is that, while he would be a fine addition to a very good Arsenal side, there are more pressing areas that need addressing. They are short of a defensive midfielder and a centre-back, and they also look suspect up front.
